On october 4, 2023, california’s governor signed senate bill (sb) 616, which increases the amount of paid sick leave employers are required to provide to california employees.
Under the existing law, employees in california are entitled to three days or 24 hours of paid sick leave per year. Under both the frontload and accrual methods, the entitlement has been raised from 24 hours or three days to 40 hours or five days.
